"Searchin'" is a song written by Jerry Leiber and Mike Stoller specifically for The Coasters. It was released as a single on Atco Records in March 1957, and topped the Rhythm and Blues Chart for twelve weeks. It reached #3 on the national pop singles chart.
Although the Coasters had previously done well on the R&B charts, it was "Searchin'" (along with "Young Blood" on the flip side) that sparked the group's rock and roll fame.
Singer/songwriter Paul McCartney chose "Searchin'" as one of his Desert Island Discs in 1982. McCartney performed the song with The Beatles during their audition for Decca Records on 1 January 1962 (with somewhat mangled lyrics that included a mention of Peter Gunn).
The song is featured in the 1999 Warner Bros. animated movie, The Iron Giant, the musical revue Smokey Joe's Cafe, and the 1999 biographical film October Sky.
The lyrics, written by Leiber, use vernacular phrasing. The plot revolves around the singer's determination to find his love wherever she may be, even if he must resort to detective work. The song's notable gimmick was in citing specific law-enforcement figures from popular culture, such as Sherlock Holmes, Charlie Chan, Joe Friday, Sam Spade, Boston Blackie, Bulldog Drummond, and the North-West Mounted Police (the Mounties). The vocals of the Coasters' lead singer Billy Guy are raw and insistent. Driving the song is a pounding piano rhythm of two bass notes alternating on every second beat.

The Coasters are an American rhythm and blues/rock and roll vocal group who had a string of hits in the late 1950s. Beginning with "Searchin'" and "Young Blood", their most memorable songs were written by the songwriting and producing team of Leiber and Stoller. Although the Coasters originated outside of mainstream doo-wop, their records were so frequently imitated that they became an important part of the doo-wop legacy through the 1960s.
The Coasters were formed in October 1955 as a spin-off of the Robins, a Los Angeles-based rhythm and blues group that included Carl Gardner and Bobby Nunn. The original Coasters were Carl Gardner, Billy Guy, Bobby Nunn, Leon Hughes (who was replaced by Young Jessie on a couple of their early Los Angeles recordings), and guitarist Adolph Jacobs. Jacobs left the group in 1959.
The songwriting team Jerry Leiber and Mike Stoller had started Spark Records, and in 1955 produced "Smokey Joe's Cafe" for the Robins (their 5th single with Leiber-Stoller). The record was popular enough for Atlantic Records to offer Leiber and Stoller an independent production contract to produce the Robins for the Atlantic label. Only two of the Robins—Gardner and Nunn—were willing to make the move to Atlantic, recording their first songs in the same studio as the Robins had done (Master Recorders). In late 1957, the group moved to New York and replaced Nunn and Hughes with Cornell Gunter and Will "Dub" Jones. The new quartet was from then on stationed in New York (although all had Los Angeles roots).

Hazell Dean (born Hazel Dean Poole, 27 October 1952,) is an English dance-pop singer, who achieved her biggest success in the 1980s as a leading Hi-NRG artist. She is best known for the top ten hits in the United Kingdom "Searchin' (I Gotta Find a Man)", "Whatever I Do (Wherever I Go)" and "Who's Leaving Who". She has also worked as a songwriter and producer.
Dean was born in Chelmsford, Essex. She started her career in the mid-1970s and came to prominence in the following decade after many years as a club performer and working on the gay scene with her brand of Hi-NRG. She was elected three times as the "Best Live Performer" by the "Federation of American Dance Clubs" (US), and twice as a "Best British Performer" by "Club Mirror Awards" (UK).
Dean participated twice in the A Song for Europe contest. In 1976, she took eighth place (out of twelve) with the ballad, "I Couldn't Live Without You for a Day", written by contest veteran Paul Curtis. 1984 saw Dean finish in seventh place of eight, with another dramatic ballad, "Stay In My Life", which she wrote herself. She also provided backing vocals for Samantha Janus in 1991's Eurovision Song Contest.

But if you don't know where to dig, all you will find is rocks and dirt. He can show you where to dig, and what to dig for, but the digging you must do yourself. (the digging you must do yourself) Let go, of what y'all know Return to the land of the rainbow Where the sun hang low and the wind doth blow And the tide it move so slow Creeps and more through the window Return to the land where the wild mare roam And the buffalo go, yeah the buffalo go Where the wild mare roam and ehh... Cross the countryside search far and wide Dig into the wheats upon the other side Streams and the rivers and the ocean...

Edited from material created and compiled for live VJ projection behind Cabaret Voltaire's tour dates in 1990/91 promoting their 'Groovy Laidback and Nasty' album. I was the film maker and what would now be called VJ, creating a multi film projector mix across the backstage for this work to accompany the live music. Footage was supplied by the band to work with and computer animations by Phil Wolstenholme.

Do you miss summer already? Me too! One day over the summer, a few of us set out to shoot a music video. We sat in the back of an SUV, pointing our cameras out the back to Mike Taylor (Epic Records Recording Artist) pedaling hard on his bike. We drove as he rode up and down Santa Monica to Venice beach and back! We then hit the beach, under the pier, and in the ocean to capture beautiful moving pictures. Well finally, all that hard work from shooting to editing is finally going to see the light of day! We shot the music video over the summer while in LA for Mike Taylor's "Searchin for Summer" Directed by Me and Mike Taylor, co-produced with Amra "Flitz" Ricketts, with help from Rob Sporer, Kuda, Jimi Gouv and Chelsea Barr. Also, thanks to all the girls from the beach who were in it! ...

Pulitzer Prize winning columnist Chris Rose put it best when he described Kristin Diable as, "...a young woman out of south Louisiana who has got some serious chops, a peroxide, leggy crooner with the a soul like Lucinda Williams, the confidence of Grace Slick and the voice of a decades-ago Bonnie Raitt...". Kristin ventured outside of the comforts of the studio and the stage to take the Liveset Team to a truly unique spot...

Searchin' searchin'
searchin' searchin'
searchin' oh, I'm searchin'
(searchin' searchin').
Tell me again why I'm alone,
am I too choosy or is a good man hard to find,
I believe there's someone for each of us,
so I've got to be, at the right place, at the right time,
in my black pumps,
I check the mirror,
although I see myself clearly, it's you I can't find,
so I'm left just...
Searchin' searchin'
searchin' searchin'
searchin' searchin'
searchin' searchin'
Once I thought I found my dream come true,
I woke up and found it wasn't you,
who are you ? The one, soul mate, my knight in armor,
in your face the sun will rise and set,
the Yin to my Yang, the upside in a downward trend,
yes, I'll know you when I find you,
until then...
I'm searchin with no end, for my lover and friend,
and with you I will rest and truly find my piece,
of heaven here on earth, and deep within my heart,
you are the missing part so I'll just keep on...
Searchin' searchin'
searchin' searchin'
searchin' searchin'
searchin' searchin'
My tears reflect the pain burried in my heart from past loves,
look me in my eyes, you'll see the need, not the fear to be enough,
tell me why do I expose my feelings, only to feel the pain again,
so I run and I run,
how far can I run from the me I find inside of you,
protection is my prison, defenses keep me bound in my stone heart,
if I conceal myself will I ever love again ?
all I need is my superman,
show me the place I can run and don't have to hide,
somebody help me,
I want to feel love, without pain.
I'm searchin with no end, for my lover and friend,
and with you I will rest and truly find my piece,
of heaven here on earth, and deep within my heart,
you are the missing part so I'll just keep on...
(I'll keep on... searchin').
Searchin' searchin'
searchin' searchin'
searchin' searchin'
searchin' searchin'
So I'll keep on searchin' baby, until I find you,
I'm gonna keep searchin' baby, oh, searchin' (searchin').
So I'll keep searchin' baby, until I find you,
I'm gonna keep searchin' baby, searchin'.
Searchin' searchin'
searchin' searchin'
searchin' searchin'
searchin' searchin' (so I'll keep searchin' baby).
Searchin' searchin'
searchin' searchin'
searchin' searchin'
searchin' searchin'
(Searchin') so I'll keep on searchin' baby,
(searchin') until I find you,
(searchin') I'm gonna keep searchin' baby,
(searchin') I'm searchin' searchin',
(searchin') so I'll keep searchin' baby,
(searchin') until I find you,
(searchin') I'm gonna keep searchin' baby,
(searchin') searchin'.
(Searchin' searchin') I'm searchin',
(searchin' searchin') oooh,
(searchin' searchin') searchin' searchin',
